We test sunscreens every year, and this year we found that some don’t deliver as much SPF protection as they promise. So the standard advice is to buy SPF 30 or higher is out the window; this year the magic number is 40. The good news is that some of the cheapest brands we tested did the best.Three store brands are great choices: Target’s Up & Up Sport SPF 50 (spray), Walmart’s Equate Ultra Protection SPF 50 (lotion), and Walgreens Continuous Sport SPF 50+ (spray).
