It’s funny—in the past few months, I’ve spent so much time with our bra expert, working on our recent story, that I’m getting pretty good at spotting a properly fitting bra myself. It’s even easier to peep a bad-fitting bra! Wonder which one you’re wearing? Here are 5 signs your bra doesn’t fit:
Your band is riding up. That means it’s getting stretched out. Fasten on a tighter set of hooks, or if you’re there already, time to go shopping.
Your straps are falling down. If they used to stay put, your bra is worn out. If they always fell off your shoulders, your band may be too big (and the straps are fitting too far out on your shoulders.)
The fabric is pilling. Fabric pills mean damaged fabric, which means the stretch is shot.
You have underwire issues. If they’re poking out, bent, or twisted, your bra isn’t doing its job anymore. Or maybe your cups weren’t big enough to start with.
Your bra is more than two years old. If you take good care of your bra (no dryer time!), it can last up to two years. But if you can’t remember how long ago you bought a bra, it’s time to chuck it!

If your bras are worn out, it’s time to toss them. But if they’re the wrong size or style for you, you can donate them. Here’s how!
