My shoe fetish

Shoes I’m definitely what you’d call a “shoe person.” I love shoes—they really do make the outfit a lot of times. I can wear jeans and a T-shirt and if I have cute boots or hot sandals on, I feel stylish. But if I throw on sneakers, I feel like a schlub. Know what I mean?
We recently polled women to see how they feel about shoes, for a feature in our April issue, on sale now. Nearly 40 percent say they’re a shoe person too. The average number of shoes women own is 17 pairs, but the “shoe people” own 27—and that’s just the average!
Just for fun, we bought a pair of $575 Manolo Blahnik shoes and cut one of them in half. Really! Call us curious, but we wanted to see what was inside, to find out if the way they were built made them worth that much money. What did we find? Fine leather, a reinforced heel, a strong leather bottom … so yeah, you get what you pay for. We don’t recommend cutting them in half, though—we swooned when the saw went through it!
We also did a side-by-side comparison of the Manolos with a $30 pair from Mossimo (Target) and a $69 pair from Nine West. You might be surprised at what we found! Check out the April issue, on newsstands now. Plus get some tips on what you can and cannot do to make a shoe more comfy. No, you can’t stretch them a full size by wearing them, but you might be able to take them to a cobbler to have them stretched by maybe half a size. And you can’t buy shoes that aren’t the right size! You just can’t!
Are you a shoe person? What’s your favorite pair? Mine are dark red soft suede mules with ties that go around my ankles and up my leg!
And if you’d like to buy any of the shoes you see in our April story, here’s where we got them.
Ann Taylor nautical peep-toe heels, $158,
Aldo “Heister,” $100,
Ivanka Trump “Saffire,” $140,
Vince Camuto “Carmel,” $129,

Auri Footwear “Layla,” $165,
Novacas “Neysha V,” $156,

Great job on the article and Youtube. More Manolo abuse please! How do they stand up to rain snow and mud compared to other shoes? We must know!

I just read your May issue for the first time reading your magazine. I love it. So down to earth. I was wondering about the shoe test. How did the shoes from Target do? Also, I was wondering about jewelry storage ideas that were mentioned in another post. Does anyone have any good ideas? I have a few drawers full of necklaces, bracelets, brooches, etc. and I would like to be able to see them.

Additionally, I am interested in finding out about older copies or articles from them. Thank you Cristina

just getting around to looking at your April 2011 shoe article. None of the larger shoes sites your recommended had wide-wide shoes. Shame on you for not menting zappos (and 2nd would be footsmart). Still the only place for stylish wide wide shoes.
